HILL VISITS & RESOURCES

Your voice matters!
Our collective advocacy throughout the year, along with Hill visits, are the foundation of our collaborative power. When we work Together Toward Tomorrow, we ensure our voice is heard loud and clear. We thank each of you for your efforts reaching out to government representatives in your district and supporting NADCO’s government relations efforts.
We are thrilled to create time for each of you to meet your district representatives in person during the Spring Summit. Your Hill visits are an opportunity to champion the CDC industry and communicate the value your work brings to their constituents and the vitality of their districts.
HOW TO VISIT THE HILL

Step One:
Identify your district representatives. If you are not sure who they are, you can use these links to contact U.S. Senators and Members of the House of Reprsentatives (Not sure who your representative is? Put in your zip code in at the top right corner of that site to find out). Please reach out to NADCO’s VP, Government Relations, Renée Bender, at rbender@nadco.org for additional assistance.Step Two:
Send an email request for a meeting. This email should be sent to the member’s staff handling small business issues requesting a meeting with the member. The benefit of emailing the appropriate staff is that you can also request time with staff after you meet with the member.Step Three:
No later than mid-April, contact the offices of your representatives to schedule a meeting for May 9-10, 2023 while you are in town for the 2023 NADCO Spring Summit.Step Four:
Prepare for your Hill visits. Many CDCs prepare their own decks and leave behind materials that highlight “The Ask” along with 504 impact data and success stories. You are welcome to take some materials you think will be impactful; however, NADCO will also provide national and state-by-state materials to leave with your representatives if you don’t have the time or staff to prepare your own materials.Step Five:
Follow-up with a thank you letter within one week of the Hill visit. Your work isn’t quite done when the meeting is over. It’s important to follow-up and thank your members and their staff after your meetings. We recommend sending a thank you letter (a NADCO template is provided below) via email as an attachment. A template email is also provided for the body of the message.Thank You Note Template
Step Six:
Keep in touch throughout the year. Your Hill visit sets the stage and builds a connection with your representative and their staff. It is important for them to keep the CDC industry in mind and a great way to do that is to periodically send them highlights of the great work your CDC does for their district or state. Many representatives would also welcome meeting 504 borrowers in their district. If you have the capacity, coordinate a borrower visit when your members are in-state for district work periods. Please inform NADCO of any visits by contacting Renée Bender at rbender@nadco.org or complete our online Congressional Contact Form.NADCO’s 2023 HILL VISIT RESOURCES
