COURSE DESCRIPTION

This one day in person training course provides invaluable training for anyone involved in closing SBA 504 loans, including CDC staff and legal professionals. The inception of the course stems from requests from the CDC industry for more CDC focused 504 loan closing topics. This course will expand on topics covered in a webinar NADCO held earlier in the year.

PREREQUISITES

“Introduction to SBA 504” (online via NADCO University) OR six-months’ experience in a substantive capacity (e.g., loan officer) for a CDC.

INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION

April Smith
April Smith is a 504 Funding Manager at CDC Small Business Finance, one of the leading SBA 504 lenders in the Nation. With 25 years of experience in the finance industry, she has gained extensive knowledge of the SBA 504 closing process through her involvement in the production and management of a 100+ client pipeline. Ms. Smith also helped develop multiple back-office lender procedures that align with SBA lending policies and SOP guidelines and regulations, ensuring a smooth and timely funding process for small businesses.


INDUSTRY EXPERT INFORMATION

Miriam Voigt
Miriam Voigt currently serves as a Managing Consultant at Guidehouse supporting the SBA 504 CSA and the SBA 7a FTA contracts. Prior to Guidehouse, Miriam worked for CDC Small Business Finance Corp for almost 29 years working with the SBA 504 and 7a loan programs. For 19 years she was involved in Processing and Closing SBA 504 loans. She also managed an entire closing department and has expressed more than once her passion for 504 closings. The last 10 years at CDC, Miriam was the Director of Sales and Support for Ventures Lending Technologies supporting almost every CDC in the country with their 504 technology needs.

Todd Kobernick
Mr. Kobernick commenced practicing law in the State of California in 1984 focusing on understanding and resolving the issues of his clients. Mr. Kobernick represents individuals, small and medium sized business entities, including nonprofit corporations along with lenders and economic development companies. Mr. Kobernick focuses his practice in economic development and lender related activity, representing the largest U.S. Small Business Administration certified development company in the nation.

Mr. Kobernick has been and remains involved with the National Association of Development Companies, teaches multiple courses for NADCO and is a member of the NADCO Closing, Servicing and Attorney Advisory committees. Mr. Kobernick has assisted the SBA in reviewing certain SBA 504 Loan Closing policies and communicates frequently with the Office of General Counsel on a broad variety of matters.

Mr. Kobernick is involved with his community by serving on several Boards of Directors of nonprofit organizations. Most recently, Mr. Kobernick founded a camp for youth and families, which operates during the entire year.

Mr. Kobernick attended the University of San Diego, graduating in 1984. He is admitted to the State Bar of California, United States District Court for the Southern and Central Districts of California, the United States Tax Court. Mr. Kobernick is certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a "designated counsel" authorized to provide specified legal services for SBA certified development companies.
