Laurel Walk
Laurel Walk is the Chief Lending Officer at B:Side Capital, leading the production, closing, portfolio management, marketing and lender services teams. She is recognized in the lending community as a strong leader who truly cares about the success of her employees, small business owners, and B:Side overall. Prior to joining B:Side Capital in 2008, Laurel worked with a nationwide SBA lender and has over 18 years of industry experience. Laurel has served on the NADCO Board since 2021 and is currently the CSA Committee Chair. As an avid supporter of B:Side Capital’s mission to foster economic growth of diverse small businesses, Laurel’s impact within the organization has been far reaching. Throughout her tenure, she’s overseen the approval of over 1,700 SBA 504 loans, which created nearly 12,000 jobs and injected over $2 billion into the economy. When the pandemic hit, Laurel spearheaded B:Side Capital’s ability to lend under the Paycheck Protection Program, guiding the organization through the transition while maintaining a high volume of SBA 504 loans.
Laurel has been actively promoting the SBA 504 industry through strategic legislative and lobbying efforts, in addition to organizing small business tours and annual trips to Washington D.C. Specifically, in July of 2021, she testified before the U.S. House of Representatives advocating on behalf of NADCO and fellow CDCs to discuss SBA’s role in climate solutions. She also emphasized the importance for the SBA Administrator’s flexibility to increase the 504 authorization cap without congressional approval so that the CDCs can continue lending until the next fiscal year. Overall, Laurel is extremely dedicated to ensuring small businesses owners have equal access to capital especially in times of need.
In addition to being incredibly passionate about her work at B:Side Capital, Laurel is also actively engaged with other community organizations. She’s been a member of the Junior League of Denver for over ten years serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer, VP of Finance, and President of the Foundation. A University of Colorado graduate, she lives in Denver with her husband, two sons, and dog Winnie.
