Is It Enough?

If you haven't had a chance to read it, now is the perfect time to check out the national coverage and NADCO mentions on (count ‘em) ALL THREE of the President's references to small business in this week's State of the Union Address. Outlets included Coleman Report, Bloomberg Businessweek and Entrepreneur all quoting NADCO CEO Beth Solomon driving the message home that it just wasn’t enough.

The phrase "any press is good press,” may work in public relations offices; and most of us can agree that national attention for NADCO continues to move the conversation forward, but the dialogue is not where it needs to be to get the support REAL504 needs from Washington.

Fortunately – or unfortunately, depending on your vantage point – we know the REAL work (pun intended) for small business lending happens at the local and regional level. The CDC's are part of the foot soldiers on the front lines working to help our country's small businesses survive and thrive. Typically, branding and market share happen more because of relationships and awareness at a local and regional level than because of what Congress (or the press) is or is not saying.

And while Washington can legislate to make the programs more readily available, if their constituents are not familiar or not aware of the programs, who do we expect to carry the lending banner? Who will champion the cause?

This 'brand awareness' issue is precisely why NADCO is championing best practices in marketing with its March Madness Marketing Awards. Certainly you've heard of it by now, but perhaps you're still on the fence about entering.

The great news is, you don't have to come up with anything new (although like the Prince of Bel Aire, "fresh" is always welcome). NADCO is looking for best practices in marketing, so that Main Street, Wall Street AND Washington know the value of REAL504.

So take a look at your website, dust off your annual report or tell us about what social media outlets are working for you so we can highlight the best.

Oh, and did we mention cash prizes and an iPad? Check out all the deets here.
